“Hi all! It’s the season of giving, and I’d love to assemble some creative packages for Cut Knife folks. Giving back to the community is important to me, and not being able to host art club for kids this year has made me brainstorm some other ways to give back!
This year has been hard on many of us, and non-essential items aren’t something everyone has had the luxury of buying. Being isolated, and having many extra-curricular activities cancelled is also taking a toll on the mental health of many community members, including children.
The mental and physical health benefits of art and creativity are numerous! They help children fine-tune their motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Art making can boost self-esteem, alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression, and fosters creative thinking which in turn helps develop problem solving skills. The benefits of art are more important now as we navigate the covid-19 climate, than ever!
I’m going to assemble 8 (tentatively) packages for artsy-people in Cut Knife (and area) who may have fallen on hard times and are unable to justify buying art supplies for themselves or their children.
If you would like to nominate yourself or someone you feel could benefit from such a package, email me a short, informal letter explaining why. Deadline for Emails is December 12th! Emails can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you can include in the email:
- please specify what kind of art the person you nominate enjoys most (sketching, mixed media drawing, painting) or any materials you think they may enjoy.
- Also their age if possible, so I can ensure the materials are safe and age-appropriate for the recipient.
Also, if you’d like to
- help out in assembling packages, and have lightly used materials (ex. Sketchbooks with only a few pages used, markers, paint tubes, watercolour palettes, pencils, pencil crayons, canvases, pastels, pencil sharpeners, etc.) you’d like to donate,
- or want to buy some materials/donate money for me to buy materials,
Send me a message!
Combined, we may be able to make even more packages and spread the gift of creativity to more residents. Cut Knife people, feel free to share!”
